Girls Day Out

Moselle Sweater - Brandy Melville | Blouse - Currents XXVII |
Jeggings - Hollister | Shoes - Charlotte Rousse

Pastels and Shopping. A girls day out usually begins with a shopping trip and I must admit, it is one of my favorite pasttimes. Unfortunately, shopping at the beach is not so easy. Sure there is tourist shopping, with the tie-dyed tank tops and beach sweatshirts, but the nearest shopping outlet is twenty minutes away, if traffic is minimal; and another twenty-five minutes if you are wanting to shop at a well known store. If high-end couture and labels is what you are looking for, plan for at least an hour and a half of driving time. Nevertheless, I never miss a chance to expand my closet! Whenever Ashley and I are visiting family in South Carolina, we always stop at our favorite local store, Currents XXVII. It is the closest chic boutique and we never leave empty handed! For todays shopping trip I added a subtle pop of color. With all the dark hues of winter I needed a spring reminder, so I paired a pastel pink blouse with my favorite cream over sweater from Brandy Melville. Even the shopping bag is a beautiful pastel blue. I guess Currents had the same idea I did!

Till next time.

Lazy Days

High-Waisted Shorts - Know Style | Thigh High Socks - Urban Outfitters
Photos by Ashley Nicole

Don't Sweat It. Today is a lazy day on Marie-Nicole and I decided to keep todays outfit effortless, but still stylish, and nothing is as effortless as an old vintage sweatshirt from my mom! What's funny, is she never even went to the University of Kentucky, yet she has this in her closet. Ah well, it just means I get to borrow it. I always love wearing vintage pieces, especially old University sweatshirts, but alone it can look shapeless and unflattering. I like to try and change up my style and find ways to make even the less likely of apparel fashionable and flattering. Rolling up the sleeves and slightly tucking it in to a pair of high-waisted shorts or jeans gives this sweatshirt an effortless chic look. Plus I am always looking for any opportunity to wear thigh-high socks, and there is no better time than in the winter or just hanging around the house. So don't sweat it, it is possible to be both comfortable and stylish.

Till next time!

Joyeux Noël

Pea Coat - Forever 21 | Plum Top - Victoria's Secret | Knit Scarf - Forever 21 |
Black Leggings - Forever 21 | Biker Boots - DSW | Rose Gold Watch - Khol's |
Candy Cane Knuckle Ring - Atop a Cupcake

Merry Christmas Everyone! There is nothing better than spending the holidays with your family and this year, Ashley and I are celebrating Christmas with our family in beautiful South Carolina. It is our first Christmas on the beach, and I must say, it is quite an experience, especially this season. Mother Nature has become quite good at being unpredictable. One day we will be at the beach in nothing but a t-shirt and the next day we will be bundled up in a scarf begging for warmth! Nevertheless, it has been amazing.

Our Christmas began with a delicious omelet breakfast prepared by my mom, and if you know my mom, you will know that she never cooks. So this was definitely a treat! Then, the moment we have all been waiting for....the presents! It is just the three of us, my mom, Ashley, and me. We each took turns opening the gifts Santa left for us under the tree; then last, but certainly not least, we dug in to our stockings! Before we knew it, there was nothing left but a pile of wrapping paper and naturally, I had to play in it! Once the Christmas mayhem was over, Ashley and I decided to start a new tradition of watching the timeless classic, White Christmas on Christmas day. So after a few hours of relaxing, it was time to head over to my aunts house and have a huge family Christmas dinner full of food, love, and yes...more presents!

Dinner with the family tends to be casual, and as much as I love to play dress up and be glamorous, I decided to keep todays look comfy and easy-going, but still stylish. Today was definitely a cold day here at the beach, and if there is one thing I love when the weather is cold, it is a heavy wool pea coat! This charcoal gray pea coat paired perfectly with my plum, over-the-shoulder, long-sleeve top; and for some extra warmth, a black knit around the world scarf (as Ashley likes to call it) was the only choice! No look is complete without a little frosting, or better known as, bling. Since it is Christmas, I am rocking a candy cane knuckle ring, talk about glamorous and festive! A watch is the undeniable accessory for all styles, whether you are going full glam or just  keeping it casual, and one of my personal favorites is the rose gold large face watch. Normally, I would wear a black heeled booty to add some glam to this easy-going outfit, but my little cousins got a trampoline for Christmas, and I knew they would be relentless in making fun of my shoe choice, so Ashley was kind of enough to let me borrow her silver studded biker boots.

I hope you all had a merry Christmas filled with love, joy, and happiness. Till next time! xoxo

Oh for the Love of Chai

This recipe is used with a Keurig Coffee Maker.
What you'll need:
Chai Latte K cup and 1/4 cup of milk

Few things compare to a hot cup of coffee on a cold, Fall day.

During the holiday season, a festive coffee is a must! A good old classic is a chai latte. This may sound cliché, but it is literally holiday in a cup and it is very easy to recreate at home. All you have to do is brew a medium sized cup of the chai latte K cup and then microwave 1/4 cup of 1% milk for one minute. But be careful, it may spill over in the last 15 seconds, so keep an eye on it! Then all that is left to do is to blend the milk and coffee together and this will create the foamy layer we all love on top.

So get out your favorite holiday mug and enjoy our delicious morning must have!

Till next time!

Best Beauty Buys | October

Bonjour Everyone!

Today we wanted to share with you guys our "best beauty buys" for the month of October! Fall has officially arrived and it is out with the light and in with the dark!
Blush: Fever (left) & Breath of Plum (right) - Mac |
Lipstick: Va Va Violet (left) -Revlon |
Myth (center) - Mac | Cocoa Bronze (right) - Revlon

These are our first Fall purchases of the season! We fell absolutely in LOVE with these dark toned blushes, but be careful! If applied to "heavy," you may end up looking like a clown. Remember guys, it is not Halloween anymore! :) Now, you can't have dark blush with out dark lipstick! However, if dark lips are not your thing, Myth from Mac is the perfect color! It is a neutral tone that greatly complements a dark "fall" eye!
Nars Tinted Moisturizer (Light0) - Sephora | Sephora Professional Mineral Powder Brush |
Liquid Eyeliner (Black Brown) - Revlon

Fall/Winter weather can have serious drying effects on your skin, and no one wants that! The Nars tinted moisturizer is perfect for the colder weather because it is a moisturizer, and if that weren't enough, this product can actually take the place of both your morning moisturizer and foundation routine, talk about a time saver! Just remember, a little goes a long way. The mineral powder brush from Sephora is really good for applying liquid face products. We use it every time we are "putting on our faces" haha. Liquid eye liners have been a part of our makeup for a long time, but this specific purchase (Revlon's colorstay - black brown) is not like the others! The difference is in the applicator brush. Standard liquid liner brushes hold no structure making it a bit more difficult to apply a perfect line, but Revlon's brush is firm and much easier to maneuver! If you are looking to make the perfect wing, we highly recommend this product.
Mascara: Bad Gal Lash (left) - Benefit | They're Real (right) - Benefit

Mascaras are a must in our makeup routine! No eye is complete without an amazing mascara, which is why we want to share with you guys, two of our favorite mascaras purchased this month! Bad Gal Lash has a thicker applicator brush which really helps to elongate your lashes giving you that "faux fake lash" look! Now who wouldn't want that?! If we had to describe the they're Real mascara, we would only need two words - Clump Eliminator! You heard right, this mascara helps to elongate your lashes while nixing those unwanted clumps. Sorry guys if this sounds like an infomercial haha!
Wicked - Essie (left) | Easy Going - Sinful Colors (center) | Forever Yummy - Essie (right)

No beauty look is complete without painted nails! So these are our favorite nail purchases that are perfect for Fall. Yes, this season is often associated with darker tones, but reds and neutrals are still acceptable! Never place a limit on beauty!

We would love to hear about your best beauty buys of October, so let us know in the comments below! :)

Till next time!

Vintage Meets Class

Bonjour fellow fashion lovers!

Today we are going to show you how these beloved vintage jeans met the classy vibe of today's fashion!
We styled these outfits the way we would wear them if we were walking through the streets of New York City. The vintage, destroyed high-waisted jeans from the '70s are making a comeback that no one can deny! You have to wonder, who brought this vintage denim back in style? Actually, why question it! Whoever brought them back, all we have to say to you is "Thank you!"

Black Blazer - JC Penney | Black "tank" Crop Top - Brandy Melville | High-Waisted Jean - Know Style | Black Faux Leather Wooden Heel Boots - Charlotte Rousse | Black Harper Bag - Francesca's | Gold Chain Necklace - Forever 21

We all know that blazers equal class! You could say I (Heather) have an obsession with blazers and with one step in to my closet, you'd see that first hand! Aside from blazers, my second obsession would have to be "all black" ensembles. So it should be no surprise that I incorporated two of my favorite infatuations in today's "vintage meets class" inspired look. The vintage '70s high-waisted jean pairs so well with today's sleek, black-on-black style. To add a pop of chicness I finished the outfit off with a modest, yet bold gold chain.

Footwear can make or break an outfit, so I chose the ever popular wooden heel boot in black. These shoes are stylish and chic and add a bit of an edge. They are the perfect piece to bring my contrasting vintage and class together into one rocking outfit. Not to mention how easy they are to walk in! :)

Now let's see what Ashley decided to wear!
Blouse - Express | High-Waisted Jean - Know Style | Tan Harper Bag - Francesca's | Two Toned Chunky Heel - Local Boutique | Gold watch - Francesca's

Achieving a classy look does not always have to be difficult. Sometimes less is more! To create this look, all you need is a stylish, dressy blouse! That is why I decided to pair my vintage, light wash, destroyed high-waisted jeans with this simple, chic button down from Express. We all know an outfit is not complete without a few accessories, but with this outfit all you need is one! So what is sophisticated, classy, and often seen on the streets of New York City? If you guessed oversized hand bags, you guessed right! That is why this tan, over sized Harper bag is the perfect addition to this outfit. It is both stylish and affordable!

When it comes to shoes, these two-toned chunky heels are the way to go! The colors matched perfectly with my neutral and black colored blouse, and contrary to the height of the heel, they are actually quite comfortable and easy to walk in.

Well there you have it fashion lovers! Pull out your vintage pieces and take it to the streets of class!

Till next time!

Happy Halloween Loves!
The month of candy and pumpkin flavored treats is reeking terror on us all and if we are not careful, like a ghost, the impact of this "candy holiday" can continue to haunt us. Are you scared? Don't be! We are here to provide you with a few tricks and tips to survive this thrilling, candy filled holiday.

It is hard to believe that on All Hallow's Eve, there is more to fear than ghouls, goblins, and ghosts. To overindulge in sugar and candy can lead to undesirable effects on your health. Giving in to this temptation can increase your risk of cavities, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain. Oh my!

Now before you decide to cut out treats altogether, you should know that it is okay to enjoy some of the guilty, chocolate-covered pleasures that accompany this holiday. In fact, we encourage you to treat yourself to the goodies of Halloween, but the trick is to not overdo it. So trick-or-treat! Get your pumpkin baskets ready because our treat to you is our healthy tricks to survive this holiday of terror!

Trick 1: "Out of Sight, Out of Mind"
We don't know about you guys, but if there are any sweets in our house, we will eat them until there is nothing left for the trick-or-treaters. So our tip to you is to not buy any candy or desserts until the night before, or even the day of.

Trick 2: "Healthy Tummy, Happy Waistline"
Our next tip is to eat a healthy, but delicious meal before any Halloween festivities. This will help you to ward off, what we like to call, the devil's food luring you to the dark side. However, like we said, feel free to enjoy the monster claws and the eyeball cookies, but remember to practice moderation and portion control. Your waistline will thank you later!

Trick 3: "Beware the Masquerading Munchies"
We don't know if you guys know this, but we are not the only ones in costume on Halloween. Foods such as chocolate-covered raisin/pretzels are similar to a child in a white sheet masquerading as a ghost. On the outside they appear to be one thing, but is that really what they are? Chocolate-covered treats give the illusion that they are a healthy option, but this is simply a costume. The only thing chocolate did was add unnecessary calories. So beware, for things are not always as they appear. Boo!

Trick 4: "Size does Matter"
Our last tip to you is portion control. Leave your pillow cases on the bed! No one needs a pillow case full of candy, so grab yourself a smaller pumpkin bucket if trick-or-treating is on your Halloween to-do list.

This candle really has nothing to do with our healthy tricks, but it sure does smell good! :) Now back to the post:

You are now ready to go forth and show Halloween who is really to fear! Happy Halloween Loves!

Till next time!

"Fall" into High-Waisted Shorts

Hello Loves and Hello Fall!

The season of falling leaves and pumpkin flavored coffee is finally upon us and we could not be more thrilled! The time to start pulling out your scarves and dusting off your sweaters is fast approaching, but is not quite here yet. So for today's post, we wanted to show you how we would put a fall spin on summer's high-waisted shorts.

How cute is the tiger on the back pocket of these light wash, destroyed high-waisted shorts?

High-Waisted Shorts - Know Style / Tank Crop Top - Brandy Melville / Plaid Button Down - American Eagle (men's department) / Combat Boots - Payless Shoes

Plaid and fall go together like candy and Halloween! So it only seemed fitting to incorporate, what I like to call, a "boyfriend plaid" button down to this otherwise summer look . If you find yourself feeling completely lost on how to add fall to your still summer wardrobe just remember, you can never go wrong with an oversized button down!
On my feet I am wearing brown combat boots, which give this outfit a "soft grunge" feel. Grunge is often characterized by combat boots and oversized plaid, but by using a pale blue color scheme and a more light brown boot, I achieved a softer version of grunge chic. Now I will let Ashley show you another way to transform summer's most popular shorts to fall.

High-Waisted Shorts - Know Style / "Sly" Sweater - Hollister / Beanie - Forever 21 / Boots - Shii

When I (Ashley) think fall, I think sweater weather. However, since I'd classify today as "pre-fall" weather, I chose to wear a light, over-the-shoulder sweater to complement my favorite high-waisted shorts. For an even more fall touch, my off-white, wool beanie was the perfect accessory! Want to know a secret about beanies? They give the illusion that you're having a rocking hair day, when in reality, you may just be trying to tame a hot mess. Pretty cool, huh? :)
These collared fur boots just scream fall and the heel adds a perfect hint of glam! So you can see why these shoes were the perfect choice to aid in my transformation from summer to fall!

We hope this inspires you to play around with your wardrobe and "fall" into the fashions of this amazing season!

Till next time! :) (:
